What is a Skin Biopsy?
A Skin Biopsy is a minor dermatological procedure where a small piece of skin is removed and sent for pathology examination. It helps dermatologists diagnose uncertain or suspicious skin conditions, such as skin cancer, moles, chronic rashes, or other unexplained lesions.
At 22 Square Clinic, we offer two main types of skin biopsies:
- Punch Biopsy – A small cylindrical blade (punch) is used to remove a core of skin. The wound usually requires sutures.
Shave Biopsy – A flat blade is used to shave off a superficial portion of the lesion. No stitches are needed.
